CHARLES Oimuke, a Ugandan Dubai-based disc jockey (DJ) and Straka Mwezi’s former boyfriend, has been sentenced to one year in prison, to be followed by deportation, for possessing and dealing in alcohol in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirate’s capital.

The judgment, which was passed on Thursday, came after three hearings, in which the Abu Dhabi police and public prosecution brought evidence and exhibits, including the seized alcohol which Oimuke was transporting from Abu Dhabi to Dubai.

The Ugandan DJ did not have a defence lawyer and when asked if he would appeal the verdict or had accepted it, he just nodded his head in acceptance.

Alcohol is banned in the United Arab Emirates and only licensed people are allowed to drink or deal in it.

Oimuke was arrested two months ago as he was driving from Abu Dhabi where he had bought alcohol for sale in his new club on Manhattan Hotel in Dubai.
