COACH Alex Isabirye will now have to score more than seven goals against Tanzanian outfit Simba, and pray that Sam Ssimbwa’s Sofapaka beats Atraco by a huge margin, for URA to advance to the quarterfinals of the CECAFA Kagame Cup championships.

This is after the Uganda champions fell 4-0 to cup holders Atraco yesterday at Nyamirambo stadium.

The first match had seen John Baraza lead new entrants Sofapaka to a 1-0 win over Simba SC of Tanzania. The win propelled the Kenyan side to the quarterfinals after registering two wins from two matches. Sofapaka joined Rwanda’s APR, TP Mazembe of DR Congo who reached the stage of eight on Tuesday.

Dady Biroli’s hat-trick did the damage against URA, as make shift left-back Allan Munaaba could not contain the Rwandan outfit - despite enjoying support from Derrick Walulya and Sam Mubiru.

Atraco opened the floodgates on eight minutes when Biroli fired home from a Jabil Mutarambirwa cross to beat a flat-footed Mulindwa Muwonge between the URA posts.

Muwonge had come in for Eddie Kaweesa, who conceded three goals against Sofapaka in their group opening match.

Biroli was on the mark again, dribbling past Musa Doka and Sam Mubiru, before he looped the ball over an advancing Muwonge.

The Atraco striker tapped in from a corner kick to complete his hat-trick before Mutarambirwa fired in the fourth. The top three clubs in the group advance to the quarterfinals. Actions continues tomorrow with the final group matches.

A Malawian playing for the APR, Chiukepo Msowoya netted four times as his team trounced Djibouti’s Telekom 6-0 to book a place in the quarter-finals. In another Group ‘A’ match, TP Mazembe had to sweat to beat Vital’O of Burundi 2-1.
