Mystery date: Musician meets Tanzanian girl

May 21, 2010

IT was a pleasant evening because I met a guy of my expectations. He was not as old as I had feared. He was social and equally talkative. Prior to meeting him, I was a bit nervous. Nevertheless, I was excited at the idea of meeting a date.

i expected to meet a pretty and intelligent girl at the date. And indeed, she was brilliant and smart enough for the evening.
I saw her walk towards the counter and according to her dressing, I felt she was my date. She finally joined me at the table.

After introductions, she said she is a Tanzanian who came to Uganda in ‘O’ level and is now in the university. She told me about her culture and how things like introduction and wedding ceremonies are done.

When I told her I am an artiste, she told me she never expected to meet a ‘celeb’ at the date. She asked for some of my songs, but I told her I had only one song so far. She promised to attend my album launch.

Anything she did that did not please you?
Nothing; she is okay.

What were you pleased with?
She speaks her mind and expresses her feelings.

Will you invite her out again?
As a man, I am adventurous and would use that chance to find out more about her.

IT was a pleasant evening because I met a guy of my expectations. He was not as old as I had feared. He was social and equally talkative. Prior to meeting him, I was a bit nervous. Nevertheless, I was excited at the idea of meeting a date.

After the pleasantries, we discussed about our future plans. He said he was lucky to have met a Tanzanian girl for a date because he had never had that chance before. We also discussed about relationships. He told me how he developed a misunderstanding with his girlfriend and they are no longer on good terms.

I advised him to resolve the issue. He promised to do that and update me of the progress. Since I had an exam the next day, I had to leave early. We left after exchanging contacts. We have talked on phone on a few occasions, since then.

What do you remember most about the date?
Exchanging ideas with a stranger. At one point, I became his counsellor and he took me seriously.

What impressed you about him?
His sense of humour and maturity.

Anything you felt he could do better?
There is nothing; he handled me well.
