THE Bamburi rugby super series ended on Saturday here with Uganda teams sent back to the drawing board. Kenya’s Rhinos defended their title with 25-5 defeat of compatriots Cheetahs.

Uganda’s side Victoria were smashed 35-0 in the third position playoff by Kenya’s Lions for the Kenyans to have the lions share of cash prizes.

Rwenzori’s Robert Seguya did Uganda proud as he emerged co-top scorer with Rhinos Sydney Ashioya with five tries despite his side Rwenzori failing to reach the knock out stage.

Kenya’s players were faster and more exposed and physically fit than the Ugandan compatriots – a thing the Uganda rugby union must work on before the tough international fixture starts next month.

The regional event needs restructuring with semifinals shifted to other countries other than Kenya.

Victoria travelled by road to Mumias, Nakuru and Nairobi thus being fatigued leading to their humiliating defeat.

“On top of injuries, long travel played a big role to this team’s game,” coach Sam Ahamya lamented.
