CHAN 1ST RD RETURN LEG
June 6: Kenya v Uganda

FUFA has delayed issuing an International Transfer Certificate for home based Cranes team captain Simeon Masaba, reports Swalley Kenyi.

The move is to allow the defender play in the Africa Nations Championship return leg against Kenya on June 6.

Masaba is on his way to joining Kenyan champions Sofapaka as a free agent on a two-year contract that should earn him a sh2m monthly salary.

Sofapaka coach Sam Ssimbwa expected Masaba and Cranes midfielder Mude Musa to join him after the first leg. The defender is also SC Villa skipper.

Masaba has also been linked with a move to Scottish side Motherwell but the Sofapaka deal appears to have taken precedence.

Kenya Football Federation has requested for the ITC but FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa said yesterday that, he had agreed with the player to transfer after the match.

“We have received a request for his (Masaba) ITC. We had a meeting with him and agreed that we shall issue it after he has played the return leg in Nairobi,” Mulindwa said.

Uganda needs at least any draw against Kenya to qualify for the second edition of the finals in Sudan next year after a 1-0 first leg victory in Kampala.

Mulindwa, who is optimistic that the Cranes will go past Kenya, was also of the view that the team underperformed in the first leg at Namboole.
