PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has asked supporters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to exhibit their political maturity in the upcoming general elections.

He advocated for the election of people with constructive ideas for the country’s economic development as opposed to those who promote division.

“Elections should be treated with a sensitive approach because, if misused, they may lead to incapacitation of the development of the nation.

“You can distinguish between leaders who will be beneficial to the electorate and those with selfish ambitions, shielding themselves behind leadership positions,” the President advised.

Museveni made the remarks on Friday at State House, Entebbe at a meeting with 851 veterans from 17 sub-counties of Mpigi district.

According to a release from the President’s Press Unit, the meeting was convened to address challenges faced by the veterans.

The veterans were led by the chairman of the Luweero Triangle War Veterans’ Association, Al Hajji Edrisa Ssedunga. The other officials who attended the meeting were the presidential advisor on land matters, Maj. Jacob Asiimwe and the co-ordinator of the veterans, Col. Proscovia Nalweyiso.

Some of the challenges listed by veterans included lack of capital to boost savings and credit co-operative organizations (SACCOs), poor roads and lack of safe drinking water, especially in Maddu in Gomba and Kiiring’ente sub-counties.
