MBALE municipal council has withheld payment of sh123m to Omega construction company for tarmacking the 1km stretch on Naboa road in Industrial Division

MBALE municipal council has withheld payment of sh123m to Omega construction company for tarmacking the 1km stretch on Naboa road in Industrial Division, reports Daniel Edyegu.

The decision was reached on Thursday after officials from the works ministry, the council and security personnel inspected the site and described the work as shoddy.

Robert Kabala, the municipal works boss, explained that the contractor deviated from the specifications.

“They were supposed to put two layers of tarmac but applied only one. The road has developed wide potholes barely two months after the work,” Kabala said.

The company project coordinator, Herbert Ndyomuhirwe, threatened to drag the council to court if they terminated the contract.

“The only problem is the drainage system that was not part of our agreement,” he argued.
