LOCAL rugby governing body URU turns its focus to a busy and tight international schedule after the local Nile Special Premier Rugby League concluded last month.

The national teams will be fully engaged during the month of June and July.

The Rugby Cranes 7s team together with the U-19 boys and girls 7s teams kick off the international rota this weekend in the Safaricom sevens tournament in Nairobi.

Kenya has invited the Uganda junior sides in a bid to enhance rugby development in the region.

On June14-19 coaches Jeff Mabonga and Anthony Kinene will lead the Emerging Cranes 15s side to the inaugural U-23 Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) trophy in Arusha, Tanzania.

Mauritius, Kenya and hosts Tanzania are the other teams in the tournament.

In July, the U-19 15s side will travel to Abidjan, Ivory Coast for the CAR Division I championship.

Uganda faces Kenya, Namibia, Morocco, Tunisia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and hosts Ivory Coast in the championship. Uganda lost to eventual champions Zimbabwe in last year’s event in Kenya.

In mid June, the Rugby Cranes 15s side will host Zimbabwe in the inaugural Victoria Cup that will run alongside the Elgon Cup.

The tri-nations tournament will witness the inauguration of the U-16 sides that will have Uganda clash with Kenya in the Elgon Cup.

“It’s a great opportunity for building confidence through team exposure. That is why we are engaging all our teams this season regardless of the financial limitations,” rugby manager Yayiro Kasasa stated.

Meanwhile, the URU annual general assembly that flopped on Sunday for lack of quorum reconvenes this evening at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
