THE High Court in Mbale district has sentenced a 43-year-old man to 25 years in jail for defiling his four-year-old daughter. Prosecution, led by Mbale resident state attorney Levi Etum, stated that a medical examination carried out on the girl indicated that there was penetration and the victim’s hymen was ruptured.

Margaret Apolot, the mother of the victim, told court that Peter Osilon of Obokora village, Butebo sub-county in Pallisa district defiled the child while she (Apolot) was preparing a meal in the kitchen.

When she heard her daughter crying, Apolot rushed into the house and saw blood mixed with suspected semen oozing out of the girl’s private parts.

Apolot immediately sounded an alarm, attracting neighbours and LC officials, who arrested Osilon and handed him to the Police. He was charged with aggravated defilement.

Justice Stephen Musota said Osilon breached the trust which the family held in him, saying he acted in a savage manner against his own daughter. “In the circumstances of this case, and given that society expects this character to be out of circulation for sometime, the convict will serve 25 years imprisonment,” Musota ruled.

In a similar case, Simon Maberi, 42, a resident of Bubeza parish in Buwalsi sub-county, Sironko district is also to serve a jail term of 25 years for defiling his 7-year-old daughter. The mother, Elina Nabukwasi, had gone to till the garden. When she returned home, she found her husband on top of their daughter.

Nabukwasi immediately made an alarm. The victim was bleeding from her private parts. A medical examination confirmed that the girl was defiled, the prosecutor, Catherine Namakoye, told the court.
