Golfer Akope impresses for May award

SPORTS scribes under their umbrella USPA yesterday voted golfer Deo Akope Sports Personality for the month of May. The ‘Yellow Boy’ was recognised for winning the KCB East African Golf Tour in Arusha.

SPORTS scribes under their umbrella USPA yesterday voted golfer Deo Akope Sports Personality for the month of May. The ‘Yellow Boy’ was recognised for winning the KCB East African Golf Tour in Arusha.

Akope polled 290 points ahead of kick-boxer John Tumukunde (280) and Katrina Ssangalyambgo (240) at the uganda telecom /USPA monthly assembly held at Oasis Club at Lugogo.

Akope beat the highly rated Kenyans Richard Ainley and Simon Ngigi in a three way sudden death play off to win the first leg of the KCB East African Golf Tour last month.

Tumukunde won medals in the 60kg category in the second edition of the World Combat Kick-boxing league in Rimin, Italy, last month.

NIC netball club and Rugby Cranes winger Robert Seguya were commended for winning the East African Netball Club Championship in Nairobi, and emerging top scorer with five tries in the rugby Bamburi Super Series respectively.

Others commended included motor cross rider Asaf Natan and Lawn tennis player Duncan Mugabe. The USPA activities are sponsored by uganda telecom.
