We know that at big concerts, music stars can be humbled as they wait in line to perform for the huge audience. This was no different at the Ekitoobero Digida 2010 concert last Sunday in Nakivubo Stadium.

The event, organised by Balaam Enterprises and Events Warehouse saw a number of artistes spend countless hours backstage begging for their turn to perform. The likes of Mega Dee, Halima Namakula, Priscilla Kalibbala, Dr. Tee, Omulangira Suuna and GNL Zamba waited for more than six hours before they could perform.

And how they cursed the Kadongo singers for singing complete albums! Upcoming stars took comfort in the fact that if the bigger stars could not perform, there was no need to rush. Yet that notwithstanding, Bobi Wine, Goodlyfe Crew, Juliana Kanyomozi and Grace Nakimera, among others bailed out on the organisers.

Singer Jose Chameleone was also subjected to this test, but he used his stardom to bully the organisers. Chameleone, who had waited for two hours, got mad when the organisers allowed Annette Nandujja to sing before him, he stormed out of the place.

It took several phone calls to bring him back. He engaged the crowd for an hour, his performance coinciding with the fireworks display at 9:00pm. After Chameleone’s performance, the gates were opened for free entry and exit.

As for turn-up, the stadium filled up and up till 7:00pm, the queues at the entrances were still long. Traditionally, the Kabaka makes an appearance at such festivals, but this time he did not, yet the festival doubled as a CBS FM anniversary party.

Earlier in the day, politicians led by newly-elected MP for Mukono North, Betty Nambooze, hijacked the show and turned it into a political rally. The party went on till the wee hours of Monday morning.

The do was sponsored by Bukedde TV in conjunction with Electoral Commission, Uganda Breweries, UHMG, Akaboozi Kubiri, the Professional College of Business and Development studies and ZK Advertising.
