THE Busoga Clans Council has accused the prime minister, Wilson Muwereza, of mismanaging the kingdom affairs and illegally selling its property. The council secretary, Samuel Kirya, said since the demise of Kyabazinga Henry Wako Muloki in September 2008, Muwereza had sold and rented out kingdom property without authorisation from the Busoga parliament, as required by law.

Muwereza allegedly sold the land where Bugembe Police barracks was located, a playground in Bugembe town council, and over 100 acres of land where Bufulubi prisons stands in Mayuge district. He also allegedly sold Bugembe stadium, 200 acres of land surrounding Igenge hill and private land around the hill. “The affected residents have taken the case to court,” Kirya added.

He also accused Muwereza of hiring out kingdom premises and selling the popular Kasubi house in Jinja town, where people with mental illness used to be treated. “Muwereza is a servant of the kingdom, he has no authority to dispose of the kingdom’s property,” Kirya told journalists at the clan leaders’ office in Bugembe.

“There is evidence that these properties were sold and the buyers can testify,” he stressed Kirya also queried how the the premier spent sh325m he received from the central Government last year.

He said they were planning to petition the kingdom speaker, Alfred Mugooda, to convene a meeting, which will constitute a committee to probe Muwereza’s dealings. However, Muwereza denied selling the property, saying all the sales mentioned were enforced during his predecessor Martin Musumba’s term.
