NAKASONGOLA district council has drawn a sh10b budget for the financial year 2010/2011, 88% of which will be funded by the Government. Donor funding will bring in sh827m, representing 8% of the budget, while the remaining 4% will be collected locally.

The LC5 finance secretary, Esther Kalule, while presenting the budget estimates, said sh7.6b will be used to pay wages and other recurrent expenditures, while sh2.4b will be for capital development.

Among the leading capital development projects to be undertaken by the district will be the installation of a sh250m water supply system in Sasira town and the excavation of valley dams worth sh116m.

The district will also construct a new office block worth sh39m, latrines for schools, boreholes, buy two motorbikes and office equipment. The district chairman, James Wandira, said there were loopholes in revenue collection, which needed to be addressed by sensitising the local community.
