Children in Bushenyi district have urged the Government to harness the natural resources the country is endowed with to foster development.

Children in Bushenyi district have urged the Government to harness the natural resources the country is endowed with to foster development.
The children said Uganda is full of resources, which are neglected. They outlined the resources as rivers, lakes, swamps, valleys, forests and national parks.
The message was contained in poems and songs performed by the children at the celebrations to mark the Day of the African Child at St. Kagwa Primary School playground in Bushenyi district. The function was organised by the Centre for Human Dignity, a local NGO.
Students of St. Noah Secondary School Mutara called upon parents to teach their children good morals by acting as role models. Pupils of Katungu Primary School described some guardians as monsters. “They keep you home doing chores, while their children are in school studying,†the children said.
The centre for Human Diginity chief, Fr. Lewis Atwiine, said Bushenyi has failed to address issues concerning children. He said at Nyamushekyera Prison, juvenile prisoners are housed with hard-core criminals. “Children of the female inmates are living under difficult conditions,†Atwiine said.
Officiating at the celebrations, the deputy resident district commissioner, Nickson Kabuye, said the Government was working hard to make sure that children live a better life.
