UGANDA Amateur Boxing Federation returns to the dock today in a case where one of the body’s warring factions will be answering criminal charges.

Dr. Ntege Ssengendo and his vice president Stephen Aciga will be responding to charges of theft of the federation equipment in the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The accusations were filed by the faction led by Godfrey Nyakana.

The equipment in question, which was sent by world boxing body, AIBA, to the Ssengendo team in 2009, includes gloves, head gear and punching pads.

Education and sports state minister Charles Bakkabulindi last year organised the electoral process that brought Nyakana to the UABF presidency.

But Ssengendo insists he is the legitimate president. He says he was empowered by the 2006 UABF constitution after Rogers Ddungu resigned the presidency to take up the top office at the Uganda Olympic Committee.

While Nyakana has ministerial recognition, Ssengendo has AIBA endorsement as the rightful UABF boss.

The case started in April with the arrest of the secretary of the Ssengendo executive David Kyambadde.

Kyambadde spent a night at Police before being granted bail by court.

Ssengendo’s executive has also filed a case questioning the legality of the Nyakana group.
