THE Mengo government has set up a museum for the Kabaka, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, at the Lubiri palace in Mengo.

The minister for tourism in the Buganda Kingdom, Florence Nakiwala, said the museum will house Kabaka’s personal effects from his childhood.

“All information about the Kabaka will be displayed for the public to view,” Nakiwala said.

Among the things in the museum are the Kabaka’s pictures with his family when he was still a young boy, spears and other regalia.

Nakiwala made the remarks while addressing journalists at the final preparations of the Buganda tourism expo at the Lubiri on Monday.

Nakiwala said the museum would help those who are interested in the Buganda Kingdom know about the Kabaka’s past.

Commenting on the expo, she said the kingdom had liaised with Makerere University’s department of zoology to obtain the necessary animals to boost the exhibition.

“We wanted to obtain all animals in relation to the Buganda clans. Some people have never seen their clan totems. This time we have them and guides will be there to educate our people about the clans.”

Nakiwala said the expo would enable Buganda to expose its culture to the outside world.

Nakiwala said this year, the exhibition will focus on the rebuilding of the Kasubi tombs which were burnt in March.

She said Centenary Bank had set up points where well-wishers can donate to the reconstruction.

The Buganda Tourism Expo 2010, which started on June 28, will end on July 4.
It was opened by the Nnaabagereka, Sylvia Nagginda, and is expected to be closed by the Kabaka.
