NAMUTUMBA district local government is to spend sh25m this year for treating nagana, Moses Bikala reports.

The disease, transmitted by tsetse flies, has killed over 340 head of cattle over the past two weeks.

The LC5 chairman, Michael Saire, while addressing the district council on Friday, said over 4,000 head of cattle in the district had been affected by the disease in the last two months.

Saire cited Magada, Ivukula and Namutumba sub-counties as being worst-hit by the disease.

He said the district had secured 150 tsetse fly traps and 400 doses of drugs.

Saire added that the district would set up three model farms in the sub-counties of Namutumba town council and Nsinze to enable residents to acquire more knowledge about fish farming.

Saire said besides constructing five primary schools, the district is to spend sh10m on tree planting.
