UGANDA’S team to the World Junior Athletics championships leaves Saturday for the biennial event due in Moncton, Canada. Action starts Monday morning.

The local athletics federation secretary Beatrice Ayikoru yesterday confirmed the trip after the team got their visas from the Canadian High Commissioner in Nairobi.

“We can now confirm that the trip is on. They were already in camp but we were waiting for visas before we make the final arrangements,” she said yesterday. The tickets had already been booked.

The team will be led by Annet Negesa, who led the Uganda junior women team to the World Cross Country bronze medal. Negesa herself won gold in the East Africa Junior Championships 800m race in Dar es Salaam last month.

Also on the team are former World Cross Country junior bronze medallist Moses Kibet, Joseph Kibet, 2000m steeplechase runner Jacob Araptany and 800m and 1500m runner Alex Cherop. Abdullah Muhammed will head the team.
