A TOTAL of 29 vehicles are still parked at Kyadondo Rugby Club, the scene of two deadly bomb blasts on Sunday night. Several of them Toyotas are still in the same place where the owners, some of them deceased, left them.

Among them is a Toyota Premio owned by local musician, Bebe Cool a.ka. Moses Ssali. He performed before bombs went off.

Fragments of the killer bombs, which exploded as soccer lovers watched the final World Cup match, damaged the left side of the vehicle.

A Police source yesterday said the vehicles could not be released immediately since the venue, popular with youth, was still a subject of investigation.

“Several people have come to us to claim the vehicles, but we have asked them to come back with proof of ownership,” a Police source said on condition of anonymity.

Documents that the Police will require include logbooks that contain details about a particular car and its owner.

A white Toyota Vigo pick-up truck is probably the most expensive of all the abandoned vehicles.

Armed policemen watched over the cars, the Silk Events music equipment and others items.

A decision on when the vehicles would be handed over to the owners or their next-of-kin was to be made yesterday, said the source.

Meanwhile, there were several false alarms in the city yesterday as panicky people called the Police’s anti-terrorism unit over what they feared could be bombs.

However, the team did not find any explosive in the places such as Naguru, a Kampala suburb, near Christ the King Church, Crane Bank on Kampala Road and the East African Development Bank.

The unit boss, Abas Byakagaba, hailed the public for being vigilant, saying their eyes and ears were a big weapon against terrorism.

The Police are also holding a man suspected to be a Somali. Shafique Abdulnoor was yesterday afternoon found loitering in Katwe, a Kampala suburb.

Abdulnoor, who was detained at Katwe Police Station, did not have any document, a source said, adding that he crossed into Uganda via Kenya with a bag that contained shoes.

“I will talk to my bosses so that they make a decision given the situation in the country,” the source said.
