ZONE ten super mini league favourites Busembatia Town Council and Bidco Uganda (BUL) kicked off their quest for promotion on a wrong note in Malaba on Saturday.

Busembatia were edged by a lone goal while Bidco were also outwitted by a similar margin in the eastern region competition whose best team will qualify for the Big League.

Busembatia however later stabilized to beat Waka Waka in a five goal thriller yesterday.

In the opening game at Teens playground Paul Isingoma struck twice and Denis Mudenga sealed victory as Mbale based CRO Junior trounced Kaberamaido’s Ochero FC 3-1.

Leonard Oleuk netted the consolation goal for Ochero three minutes to the final whistle.

Jinja based Bidco put up a spirited game but lost 1-0 to Zone Two’s Amus Kwarikwar with the lone goal coming in the second half from a spot kick by substitute Isaac Osikol.

Bugiri-based Super Star held onto an Abbas Mpanga first half header to edge hard tackling Victoria FC from Moroto.

Meanwhile, organisers had to adjust Group D fixtures after a last minute pull out from the tournament by Budaka regular campaigners Namadu FC who are cash strapped.

In the 10 team northern region race hosts Gulu University, The Boyz and Gulu Blackburn have taken the lead.
Northern Star of Amuru pulled out of the fixture after failing to pay participation fee of sh200,000.

Real Power Dynamo of Moyo did not turn up for still unclear reasons.
The western version starts today at Sir Tito Winyi stadium in Hoima. The region is out to replace Hoima FC who have just been relegated from the top league.

The first day is for reporting and registration then a meeting of club officials who will draft the tournament’s group fixtures.

Organizing committee chairman Abbas Sendyowa stressed that teams must pay registration fees. He also insisted that players must have participated in their respective zonal levels.

Expected teams include Umoja (Mbarara), Maziba (Kabale), Young Simba and Kyahi FC (Kisoro), and Ibanda all from Zone 6.

Others from zone six are Steel FC and Masindi T/C (Masindi) and three other teams from Hoima and CDTS (Child Development Through Sports), Mpaka FC and Kasese Youth, Volcano (Fort Portal) and one team from Kyenjojo District.
