NTUNGAMO farmers will get loans at 10% interest rate for agricultural inputs spread over a period of 10 years, following PostBank extension of services to the district.

“I am excited about the programme to boost agriculture. I will also encourage farmers in Karamoja to open up accounts in PostBank,” the First Lady and the MP for Ruhaama County, Mrs. Janet Museveni, said recently.

Mrs. Museveni was speaking at the official opening of PostBank branch in Ntungamo Municipality.

Janet thanked the Government for creating a national bank in PostBank to ensure that services reach the communities in the rural areas.

“This year, the Government has continued to enable such developments reach the people through the national development framework.

“Working with the local communities is key to development,” she said.
Mrs. Museveni said the Movement Government was demystifying the banking industry, which had been a monopoly of a few people to ensure that all Ugandans access the banking services for investment.

Janet advised the people of Ntungamo to develop a savings culture.
“If we want to make our own bank story we should develop a saving culture like the Chinese,” she said.

The managing director PostBank Stephen Mukweli said the institution had made progress in installing modern electronic software to support operations to provide new services like mobile banking.

Mukweli explained that the bank’s themes this year include developing a savings culture and effective management of loans to improve household incomes.

“We have come fully-loaded to fight poverty and transform people’s lives.
“The starting point is for you to open an account with us,” he told the locals.

E. Kansiime, the board chairman, in a speech read by Fred Muhumuza, urged the Government to provide more capital for the bank to remain financially strong in the current competitive banking environment.
