According to Hellen Apolot, the south-eastern traffic chief, the first accident, which occurred at about 11:00pm on Wednesday, involved three vehicles that included a Tata lorry loaded with sugarcane, a fuel tanker and a Toyota saloon car heading in the same direction from Iganga.

She said the fuel tanker, registration number KBC 600Y/ZB 9158, swerved off the road and hit the lorry, registration number UPB 815, a tree and a saloon car registration number UAH 124G.

She said Abdallah Ali Shakir, the driver, Abdallah Abesan and Haji Garigye, a turnman of Somali origin, were in the tanker. Garigye died on spot after his body got trapped in the wreckage of the head cabin of the trailer.

Cpl. Richard Olanya, the officer in charge of the fire brigade in the south-eastern region, told The New Vision that Shakir, Abesan, Wilbroad Ochwo, the driver of the saloon car and Ali Emorut, who was also in the saloon car, were injured in the accident.
