Bukenya, Kiyonga, Kadaga win Gombololas

VICE-President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has been elected unopposed as NRM party chairperson for Kakiri sub-county in Wakiso district.

VICE-President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has been elected unopposed as NRM party chairperson for Kakiri sub-county in Wakiso district.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga was also unopposed for Mbulamuti sub-county women’s league in Kamuli district.

Wakiso chairperson Ian Kyeyune was elected chairperson for Nansana town council, while Entebbe mayor Stephen Kabuye was unopposed for Entebbe Division A.

The four join other NRM bigwigs competing for positions at the lower level.

Sub-county polls nationwide were generally peaceful, but competitive.

However, in Mbarara municipality, voting in Mwizi sub-county was halted following clashes between supporters of Venance Rurema, the incumbent, and Edward Baryabuuza, over rigging. Also, results for the NRM chairperson for Bwanswa sub-county in Kibaale district were cancelled.

NRM stalwart Mamerto Mugerwa, the Kira Town Council mayor, was elected unopposed as chairperson.

In Kasese district, defence minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga went unopposed in Bwera sub-county.

In Kamuli district, lands state minister Asuman Kiyingi lost to Mutyabule Naluswa for the post of vice-chairperson for Bugabula.
The Moyo district chairperson and NRM boss, Peter Iku Dolo, also lost to Tom Aza for Moyo sub-county.

The presidential adviser on political affairs in the east, Ahmed Kawoya Kawugu Mugaino, was, however, unopposed for Nawanyago sub-county.

In Gulu district, Gulu University guild president Junior Opiyo was elected youth league chairman. Results for Pece division youth league were cancelled because some youth were ineligible to vote.

The polls for the municipality take place today. Sub-county, parish and village polls have taken place. Party leaders elected at village, parish and sub-county level will vote for the municipality executive.
