THE paramount chief of Acholi, Rwot David Onen Acana II, has suggested that the kingdoms in the West Nile, Acholi, Lango and Teso sub-regions should unite to demand operational funds from the central government.

He said the sh5m the Government is giving some of the cultural institutions is not enough to fund their activities.

Acana made the remarks at a ceremony to receive the newly-appointed Alur envoy to Acholi, Camilio Odongo, at his palace in Gulu on Monday. Odongo was appointed by the king of Alur, Rwoth Phillip Rauni Ubimu Olarker III.

“We have a forum for kings in Uganda, but we should also have a regional cooperation of the Alur, Acholi, Madi, Lango and Teso kingdoms to influence certain decisions that are desirable by our people,” Acana said.

He said cultural institutions cannot continue relying on NGOs and other donations for development.

He urged the Alur and Acholi to unite and share resources to develop their communities.
