MOST marriages are unstable because couples are not following the Bible, which is a manual to guide husbands and wives on how to steer their marriages well, the Busoga Diocese bishop, Michael Kyomya, has said.

He said the Bible clearly spells out that wives should submit and respect their husbands and in the same vein, husbands should love their wives, but spouses were conducting themselves on the contrary.

“What is causing many marriages to become dull, unstable, violent and eventually breakup is the lack of respect among spouses.

“Some women have taken up the powers of husbands and have become heads of homes in the name of women emancipation, a phenomenon they have immensely abused,” Kyomya said.

The bishop was addressing members of the Mothers’ Union at the Bugiri archdeaconry on Sunday.

Kyomya warned husbands against acting like untouchable kings in their homes. He urged them to love and care for their wives, be repentant and a good example to the family.

The bishop hailed the union, saying it is a strong pillar in the church ministry. He called upon couples who are not legally married to do so.

The union president and wife to the bishop, Florence Kyomya, urged the members to pay membership and subscription fees to enable them complete their projects, which include a shrine to mother Mary.
