Inter-Party alliance involving UPC is a disaster for Uganda

Some opposition parties have made a coalition called Inter- Party Cooperation (IPC) mainly for purposes of contesting and eventually wrestling power from the NRM.

Some opposition parties have made a coalition called Inter- Party Cooperation (IPC) mainly for purposes of contesting and eventually wrestling power from the NRM.

Others like DP and PPP have so far avoided this folly and vowed to soldier on independently.

My main worry with the IPC is not the coalition principle per se but the bedfellows involved in this frightening marriage of convenience.

The desire by FDC to wrestle power from the NRM at all costs has made them so desperate that they threw all caution to the wind.

The UPC, single-handed, destroyed the post-colonial Ugandan fabric by dismantling Uganda’s treasured and age-old kingdoms, destroyed Buganda as a people and region, imprisoned their opponents and most crucially introduced the misuse and abuse of the military in the politics of Uganda through Idi Amin.

In their second attempt (1980-85), UPC excelled in their bloodletting, torture, extra-judicial killings, looting, mayhem and other macabre human rights abuses in Buganda, western Uganda and in many other areas.

Dr. Olara Otunnu the new UPC honcho extended his political lease by participating in the subsequent regime of the Okello military junta which perpetuated the killings and mayhem until they were stopped by the NRA.

It is this gruesome group that the FDC has chosen to ally with to take power! Ironically the people at the helm of FDC, including Dr. Kizza Besigye, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu and Maj. (Rtd) Kazoora and others were involved in the war to liberate Uganda from the despicable UPC regime!

Yes, FDC may have some genuine issues, yes, NRM may have made some mistakes but this cannot be an excuse for them to ally with UPC.
