NTOROKO district, which was recently curved out of Bundibugyo in June, has started its operations by turning the playground of Ntoroko Secondary School into offices.

Tents have been erected where the district workers carry out their duties.
The district officials are also using the school facilities like toilets.

The head teacher, Richard Ategeka, complained that the district was interrupting the school’s sports programme, saying the school had resorted to using the playgrounds of other schools.

The district, which comprises Karugutu, Rwebisengo and Kanara sub-counties, will build an administration block next year when it gets funds.

The chief administrative officer, David Asaba, said on Friday the administration is using the playground because the district lacks offices.

“We will use the playground until November when a temporary structure will be set up at the district headquarters in Kibuku, near Semliki National Park,” he said.

Asaba noted that they resolved to pitch tents because the the offices at the Karugutu and Rwebisengo sub-county headquarters did not have sufficient space.

He disclosed that district documents are not safe because they are being kept in the homes of some workers.

Grace Mwesige, the Rwebisengo sub-county councillor, said two council sessions being held at the playground had been disrupted by rain.
