A total of 29 amendments to the FUFA constitution will be discussed in the federation’s extra-ordinary general assembly at Pope Paul VI Memorial Hotel in Rubaga today.

FUFA president Larence Mulindwa said on Wednesday that many of the changes come after recommendations from world soccer governing body FIFA and a local constitutional review committee.

“FIFA wants our constitution to be consistent with their statutes,” Mulindwa explained at the federation’s weekly press conference held in Mengo.

Most prominent among these will be an article changing the Uganda super league from its current amateur form to professional status.

Proposed amendments on Friday include one to increase the federation’s geographical regions from five to seven. If passed, this law will have northern and eastern that cover massive areas divided into two each to ease administration.

Tomorrow’s agenda will cover the standard annual meeting constitutional requirements like president’s and financial reports, admission and suspensions of constituencies into the assembly.

Mulindwa warned that observers will not be entertained in today’s meeting.

“For security reasons and for the sake of finishing business in time, we strictly want delegates,” Mulindwa explained.

Meanwhile, with hardly three weeks to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, FUFA is yet to raise sh258m required for the Cranes campaign that starts with a game against Angola at Namboole on September 4.

FUFA technical director Assuman Lubowa yesterday confirmed that he had already handed in a budget of sh170m and $40,000 (sh88m) to the Cranes Committee.

The $40,000 will be spent on air-tickets for professional players, allowances and accommodation while the sh170m is for other local expenses.

Cranes are drawn with Kenya, Angola and Guinea Bissau.
