PIRATES have signed Makerere Impis back line player and kicker Rugumayo Mpuga ahead of the national rugby sevens circuit set to kick-off in Entebbe next weekend.
“He just returned home, he was our player before getting a scholarship at Makerere University,†club captain Moses Soita said.
Rugumayo is a fast and swift runner and it is believed he will fill the gap created by players who are injured and others busy with studies.
The player, who completed a degree course in electric engineering this year, will also feature for the club in the national league and Uganda Cup next season.
Pirates finished fourth behind champions Heathens, runners-up Impis and third-placed Kobs in the league season.
Other clubs in the circuit are title holders Heathens Kobs, Entebbe Mongers, Summerkamp, Stallions, Rhinos and Buffaloes.
The Rugby Cranes sevens team preparing for the Commonwealth Games set for India in October will also participate in the event as a buildup for the club games.
