NO doubt, eyesight is one of the most valuable gifts creation gave to mankind. We all love to see things that are pleasing to the eye, but do you ever think about the many times you have engaged in activities that could ruin our eyesight?

Things like reading under insufficient or too much light, poor nutrition and hygiene are just a few of the enemies of eyesight.

Simple adjustments like incorporating our locally available fruits like mangoes, and vegetables such as carrots in our diet, adequate care and pampering our eyes will preserve this most cherished gift.

Some people have gone the extra mile to invest in trendy shades and contact lenses to enhance beauty and protect their eyes from harsh rays, but do you know that many children, as young as two years, lose their sight?

Do you know that one out of five children worldwide are grappling with complicated, unidentifiable eye problems?

Many times parents, caretakers and the children themselves may not realise there is a problem until it is too late. This week, in Health & Beauty we discuss the causes and signs of some common eye problems that can lead to serious eye defects; what we can do to preserve our children’s eyesight, and how to handle the problem when it occurs.

According to the Department of Ophthalmology, Mulago Hospital, over the years, they are receiving more children with eye defects. This is attributed to increased awareness among parents, easy accessibility to health facilities and lifestyle factors like watching TV. We simply need to make simple adjustments in our diet and lifestyle.

Today, we also take you through the tremendous benefits of ginger, the plant many regard as a mere spice. And, our interactive forum gives you a chance to share your experiences and get advice from experts.
