Lightning kills three in Gulu

THREE children in Gulu district were on Thursday killed by lightning in their home.The incident occurred at Omwonya village in Bobi sub-county.

The mother of the children, Santa Ajok, 36, identified the dead as Monica Akao, 12, a Primary Four pupil of Abwoc Primary School, Winnie Akullu, 5, and Omara, 11, a Primary Three pupil at Patek-Bar School.

Ajok said the children were removing their clothes that were spread to dry on the wire, when they were killed.

The children were buried at their home yesterday.

This is the second time in three years that lightning kills children in Gulu. On March 14, 2008, two children were struck dead by lightning, while 27 were injured during the district athletics championships at Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu.
