THE contributions of Theatre Factory to Ugandan comedy seem to be endless. The group brought the title of Comedy Nite which has been taken over by various groups.

After some of its members defected to form another ensemble, other comedians have now “stolen” Theatre Factory’s title of Grand Comedy Nite.

That title, according to Theatre Factory’s
Phillip Luswata, is patented. The scenery smells of a lack of originality in this industry. In Uganda’s creative arts, copy cats seem to have the last laugh!

A grand comedy nite takes place
tonight at Theatre La Bonita. It features comedians from various camps like Akandolindoli (including Patricko Mujuuka, Abby Mukiibi), Fun Factory, the Crackers (including Prince Emma, Patrick Idringi, Dolibbondo), Pablo and Herbert
“Mendo” Segujja.

According to the organiser, the entire casts of Akandolidoli and Fun Factory are going to feature in the show. Only a few crackers’ comedians will, however, be part of the show. The line-up and venue is testimony to the inconsistent Kings of Comedy shows.

The concept and title of the show are both not new. What will be new will be the staging of fresh skits which are going to be presented for the first time. The contrast of several styles, themes and languages that these different groups bring to the stage is what will make the show a special comedy outing.

This is Pablo’s last show before his wedding the following day. Perhaps that is a comedian’s way of going into marriage – laugh off bachelorhood. Entrance is sh20, 000 and sh40000 V.I.P
