JUBILANT supporters took to the streets of Iganga town on Friday night after former Luwero Triangle state minister and Iganga District Woman MP Beatrice Magoola was beaten in the NRM party primaries by little known Olivia Kabaale.

The unruly crowd blocked sections of the main street as they marched with tree branches led by bodaboda cyclists.

Magoola managed to get only 11,344 votes against Kabaale’s 38,727. Faith Tereka got 12,592, while Rose Bakita trailed with 944.

George Patrick Bageya, a former district chairman and Busia Resident District Commissioner lost the bid to represent Iganga Municipality to a drug shop proprietor, Peter Mugema.

Bageya garnered a paltry 89 votes against Mugema’s 2,144 while interdicted NAADS co-ordinator Peter Kisambira managed to get 1,199 votes.

The party acting returning officer, Robert Kayeyera, declared third deputy premier Kirunda Kivejinja winner of the Bugweri poll after he got 21,312 votes against the 1,777 obtained by his closest rival Amisi Kirunda.

Iganga NRM members finally went to polls on Thursday after several attempts had flopped. The tallying went on through the night until results were released on Friday afternoon at the district council hall.

District chairman Asuman Kyafu lost the race for Kigulu South constituency with 5,840 votes to incumbent MP Milton Muwuma, who got 19,708.
