KENYA national football coach Twahir Muhiddin has stepped aside to allow a probe in the poor performance of Harambee Stars in their opening Nations Cup qualifier they lost away to Guinea Bissau.

Muhiddin told Football Kenya
Limited to look for another coach to handle the team for the second match of the qualifiers against Uganda in Nairobi on October 9.

The coach said he will only agree to return to the team once the root cause of the team’s mediocre show against Bissau was ascertained.

In an interview with the New Vision yesterday, Muhiddin took a swipe at some FKL officials whom he accused of killing football in the country. “Every year there are controversies and wrangles among the same, same guys who are still running the sport. What are they up to?” he asked after he was blamed for the team’s 1-0 defeat.

Prior to Harambee Stars traveling to Guinea Bissau, the team drew 1-1 with Tanzania and trounced Ethiopia 3-0 in Addis Ababa to confirm that they were pre-match favourites against Guinea Bissau.

“It was shocking that the team’s performance could plummet all of a sudden. Something seriously went wrong, thus the need to institute a thorough probe into the team’s mediocre performance. The investigations should include everybody including players,” Muhiddin said.

Muhiidin disputed accusations that there was a rift between stars McDonald Mariga and Dennis Oliech.
