KENYAN Kenyan authorities have handed over three guns and cattle to Uganda. The animals were were grabbed from Nakapiripirit district a month ago by suspected cattle rustlers.

The North Pokot district officer, Joash Abongo, on Friday said Uganda and Kenya needed a lasting solution to cattle raids.
“We want peace. We as Kenyans have decided to hand over the stolen weapons and animals. We are fed up of unruly pastoralists,” he said.

Abongo was speaking at the handover ceremony of the weapons and eight head of cattle, which were stolen by the Pokot, at Nasal village, Alale Division in North Pokot district in Kenya.

During the raid, the Pokot shot dead three UPDF soldiers and stole their guns.

The raiders also shot and injured one woman during an ambush of a vehicle belonging to the Uganda Bureau of Standards.

“This shows that Kenyan warriors are still heavily armed. We have not been able to recover nine guns and some animals,” Abongo said, adding that the recovery was ongoing.

He said security was still hunting Loteba Lonyanguruk, Lokwangiise Alemusia and Losiak Anyoule, all notorious rustlers.

Abongo said security in Kenya had proved that the three participated in the killing of the UPDF soldiers.

Other suspects are Lokorisomok Aluk, Olow Oloisemagel, Lingakor Nakolikwang and Ingura Kapetuun, he said.

The Moroto resident district commissioner, Nahaman Ojwe, who led the Ugandan delegation urged his counterparts in Kenya to maintain peace.
“This move shows transparency among the two countries,” he said, adding that it was unfortunate that the Pokot and Karimojong had failed to achieve peace.

The ceremony was also attended by the UPDF 3rd Division Commander, Brig. Patrick Kankiriho, and other senior army officers from both countries.
