KAPCHORWA district council has approved a proposal to askin the tourism ministry to avail 200 hectares of land from Mt. Elgon Forest Park to the education ministry.

The land, which was reserved for institutions in 1983, will be used to develop a sports training centre at Teryet.

The council passed the resolution following a presentation from the LC5 chairman, Nelson Chelimo, that the education ministry was committed to developing the sports centre and wanted the district to confirm the availability of land.

About 100 hectares will be used for the sports facility, while the rest will be occupied by a primary school and other institutions.
