INSPIRED by an Augustine Nsumba strike, URA finally ended army side Simba’s five years dominance over them with a well deserved victory at Namboole.

The tax collectors were in better form than in their opening match and their attacking initiative was rewarded when Nsumba headed home Allan Munaaba’s perfectly weighted cross 29 minutes into the match, sending their bench into wild celebration.

In the build-up to this game, coach Alex Isabirye had demanded for a better performance after his side’s opening away draw with Express. He got his wish.

Nsumba was adventurous upfront while Derrick Walulya, Simeon Masaba and Musa Doka’s defence completely shut out Simba’s lead striker Godfrey Wakaza.

“We are relieved to have won our first game of the season,” said Isabirye.

At Nakivubo, the fruits of fan mobilization were evident with the fair crowd that turned up for a thrilling match. The highly publicized encounter between 16-time champions Villa and Proline however failed to produce a goal but had several yellow cards from referee Fred Mufta.

“My players were good but they were demoralized by the referee,” Villa coach Sula Kato remarked.
Kato cited Richard Luyima’s rough tackle on new signing Bernard Mwalala that he thought should have seen him sent off and a penalty awarded.

Proline also gasped in disappointment when Robert Lopidia, unmarked in the penalty area, fired directly at the goalkeeper later on.

The day had started off on an exciting note with Villa chairman Fred Muwema cruising into the grounds in a red Mercedes Benz (below). Jogoo faithful dashed to the car to open for the city lawyer smartly in a dark suit.

In Kavumba, Edrisa Kaye scored to give Express an away win. Police were in similar form with Andrew Waisswa and Amuran Mukasa scoring a goal each to give the side its first win of the season.

Maroons also pulled off an away win over Masaka.
