Kasese MPs win FDC primaries

(FDC) party MPs from Kasese district won the party primaries held on Friday. According to Gadi Mbahayi, the party’s returning officer, Kasese Woman MP Winfred Kiiza was returned unopposed, while her husband, Bukozo East MP Yokasi Bihande, defeated four opponents.

Two Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party MPs from Kasese district won the party primaries held on Friday. According to Gadi Mbahayi, the party’s returning officer, Kasese Woman MP Winfred Kiiza was returned unopposed, while her husband, Bukozo East MP Yokasi Bihande, defeated four opponents.

Bihande polled 181 votes against his main challenger, William Kibanzanga, who got 76 votes. Others in the race were former assistant chief administrative officer Pascal Mubi with 58 votes, Godfrey Madebeya with 53 and Ezekiel Bisogho who got 33 votes.

In Bukonzo West, little known former chairperson for Kasese district service commission Ruth Kabanyoro beat three others with 409 votes. Richard Baluku got 188 votes, Yohazi Baluku scored 50 votes and Benon Muhindo got 19 votes.

Kabanyoro will tussle it out with defence minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga. In Busongora North, William Nzoghu polled 347 votes, followed by Silas Kimanywenda with 154 and Josephat Masererka with 87 votes

In Busongora South, Jackson Mbaju passed unopposed after his only challenger Constant Siwako had his candidature nullified on academic grounds.

Siwako has vowed to stand as an independent candidate. Others who passed unopposed include Busongora South MP Christopher Kibanzanga, who is contesting as district chairman, Syahuka Bwambale Musa Jr. for Kasese municipality MP, Nelson Ndungo for Kasese municipality mayorship and Kafupi Makoti for Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council chairperson.
