THE Police in Kajjansi on Entebbe Road have impounded five vehicles suspected to have been stolen by the same racket.

Four of the vehicles, Toyota Ipsum cars were intercepted at the Uganda –Rwanda border by Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) officials, who upon scrutiny, established that the registration used belonged to a Mercedes Benz car.

Francis Kabera, the Kajjansi Police boss, said the suspects revealed other members of the gang, including Robert Sempebwa of Nakigalala in Kajjansi. More “dubious vehicles” were recovered from Sempebwa’s home, but he is on the run.

The Police are also investigating reports that the gang were conniving with a certain micro-finance institution in Makindye Division in Kampala to sell the stolen vehicles to the public under the pretext that the owners had failed to repay their loans.

The vehicles in Police custody include a Toyata Ipsum registration number UAM 576Z, whose driver, identified as Jean Cloudy, was killed and his body dumped at Buwama on Masaka Road.

The Police said the number plates on some of the vehicles made it hard for the owners to identify them.

“We are expecting to recover more vehicles. Those arrested have already given us enough information,” Kabera said.
