A mother and her son have been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. The High Court in Fort Portal, presided over by Justice John Bosco Katutsi, jailed Joyce Agaba and her son, Acleo Agaba, for life for murdering Jane Rose Kabagenyi on November 11, 2006, following a land dispute.

Prosecution said when court resolved the land dispute in favour of Kabagenyi, Joyce Agaba told her she would not enjoy the fruits of the judgment.

Godfrey Asiimwe, Kabagenyi’s son, told court that the day before his mother was killed, he found the accused with a blue rope.

“I heard the son asking his mother whether the rope was suitable for the purpose. The following day my mother went to work in her garden and that was the last time I saw her alive,” Asiimwe narrated.

He told court that his mother was found hanging by the rope he had seen with the accused.

An officer from Fort Portal Police Station only identified as Bwambale told court that: “The body was touching the ground, which made me suspect that it could be murder and not suicide. Around its neck was a blue rope.”

Bwambale added that as residents gathered at the scene of the incident, Joyce Agaba stayed at her home.
