Mystery date: He ate before praying

Oct 08, 2010

I reached Choma first and waited for about 15 minutes before he turned up. We talked about career, studies and our background. He told me he had a girlfriend, but they lost communication and was searching for another one. I told him I had a boyfriend.

Each week, two lucky people get the chance to go on a blind date. This week Chrysestom Asingirwe, 24, went with Ivonne Nakanwagi, 20, to Choma Restaurant at Century Park, Jinja Road. I reached Choma first and waited for about 15 minutes before he turned up. We talked about career, studies and our background. He told me he had a girlfriend, but they lost communication and was searching for another one. I told him I had a boyfriend.

What were his strong points?
He was clever, seemed informed, sincere and open-minded. He was generally a good man, except….

Except what?
He dressed casually, yet I expected formal wear at such an important outing. He also asked many probing questions during the conversations.
I expected a God-fearing person, but was surprised when he started eating without praying.

What next for the two of you?
Unfortunately I did not take his number so I do not know whether it is possible to meet again.

When I reached, I could not trace my date since there were many girls. I asked a receptionist who directed me to her table. I found her taking a drink. We exchanged pleasantries. She was a beautiful lady. However, she said she was single but not searching. I told her I knew of Mystery Date through Saturday Vision.

Was she trying to say she was available?
I think she has a boyfriend, but not seriously committed.

Did you talk about previous relationships?
I did, but she never told me about hers.

Do you think she was hiding something?
I think she was still gauging whether time was ripe for her to open up.

Have you heard from her since?
I have not met her again but would wish to have another outing with her. I would want her to be my girlfriend.
