THE Rt. Rev. Dan Zoreka was on Sunday consecrated as the second bishop of Kinkizi diocese after the retired bishop, John Wilson Ntegyereize.

Kinkizi become a diocese on May 15, 1995 after it was curved out of the North Kigezi diocese.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was the chief guest at the ceremony presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Henry Luke Orombi, at Nyakatare Primary School.

Museveni congratulated the people of Kinkizi upon installing the second bishop. “You have produced the second born of the diocese,” the President said.

He urged church leaders to help the Government fight poverty by encouraging Christians to set up income-generating activities.

“Jesus did four major things which I want church leaders to emulate. They are preaching the gospel, being practical, healing the sick and feeding the hungry,” Museveni pointed out.

He challenged the church to change society from being poor to earning about sh100m annually. “This can be achieved by anyone with four acres of land. They only need to be sensitised on mixed farming which will give them daily income,” Museveni added.

He urged the Christians to solve their problems among themselves without involving other people.

The President gave Zoreka a four-wheel-drive vehicle and gave Ntegyereize five exotic cows.

Orombi commended Rev. Can. Bernard Bagaba for pledging to work with Zoreka although his election as bishop was cancelled.

Zoreka promised to bring back those who had strayed from the diocese.

He said during his term of office, he would focus on education, health, providing safe water and fighting HIV/AIDS.
