UGANDA won the inaugural regional open swimming championship that was held at Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU) over the weekend.

UGANDA won the inaugural regional open swimming championship that was held at Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU) over the weekend.

Local junior swimmers saw the two Ugandan sides finish top in the two-day event that attracted 115 participants from three countries

In the 200m individual medley, U-11 age category, Arnold Kisulo of Uganda won in a time of 3:04.98 seconds, Rodney Ruhesi from Kenya coming second in 3:41.92 and another Kenyan Shyam Shah came third.

In the girls U-10 category, nine-year old princess Sarah Katrina Ssangalyambogo who was voted the best swimmer in her category jlost two of her eight races.

She lost to Alexia Demitrous and Lisa Barendse in the 100 and 50m fly races.

“Am happy with my performance although I lost two races which are both in the butterfly category, this gives me a challenge to overcome next time” Ssangalyambogo said.

The was used by the Uganda Swimming Federation as a build-up for the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships in United Arab Emirates due December 12-20.

Jackson Niyomugabo, who dominated in the open category races, helped the Rwandan side finish third, with Kenya trailing in fourth position.
