AT least sh21.5m was realised in cash and pledges at a fundraising drive for the construction and expansion of Kakatunda Health Centre in Bukinda sub-county in Kabale district. The health centre was started by the Catholic Diocese of Kabale. Speaking to the residents on Sunday at Kakatunda playground, Dr. Francis Runumi, the commissioner in charge of planning in the health ministry, urged them to share their wealth with the underprivileged. He also advised the residents to observe sanitation. Runumi reiterated the Government‘s commitment to establishing and equipping a health unit in every parish in the country.


Lightning strikes five pupils
Five pupils were on Monday struck by lightning at Bushekwe Primary School in Busengo village in Nyarubuye sub-county in Kisoro district. The children were rushed to hospital, where one only identified as Rogers died on arrival. Rogers is the son of Deo Gasasira, the area LC1 chairman. By press time, the other four were still in critical condition. The residents wondered why the lightning conductor failed to protect the school from the strike.


Museveni’s cards inspire candidates
The President’s success card has created hope and confidence in us, an O’level candidate at Kilembe Secondary School in Kasese district said on Thursday. “When the President’s success card was read to us, many of us felt a lot of love and best wishes from a parent who has seen us go through the four years without our biological parents paying school fees,” Nathan Baluku said. He said the card encouraged them to read the more so that they do not ashame the President when the results come back. Headteacher Bart Kule said the President sent the cards to all students sitting the O’level national examinations.


Hailstorm victims get sh1m beans
All Saints Church of Uganda in Masindi district has given 1,075kg of beans worth sh1.9m to people whose crops and houses were destroyed by hailstorm on September 15 in Marongo and Kahembe parishes in Bwijanga sub-county. The planting material was handed over to the victims at Kahembe Church of Uganda by the Vicar of All Saints Church Masindi, the Rev. Lydia Kwesiga, on Saturday. Over 800 families were displaced by the hailstorm.
