JINJA municipal council has imposed a fee on campaign posters displayed in the town by aspiring candidates.

The town clerk, Francis Barabanawe, said candidates for parliamentary, LC5 and the mayoral race shall pay sh100,000, while aspirants for district councillors and LC3 chairpersons shall pay sh50,000.

He added that municipal and division councillors shall pay sh40,000 and sh30,000, respectively.

The council has stationed a cashier at the nomination centre where candidates can pay for the display of posters.

Barabanawe, however, explained that the payment is not a condition for one to get nominated.

He said the council would monitor the whole municipality to remove posters of those who fail to pay the fee.

Barabanawe said the money collected would be used to remove the posters and clean the town after the campaigns.
