AT least 10 candidates for LC3 sub-county chairpersons were nominated to contest in Rukungiri district in next year’s general elections.

AT least 10 candidates for LC3 sub-county chairpersons were nominated to contest in Rukungiri district in next year’s general elections.

The nominations for Rukungiri municipality are being held at the district headquarters, for Rujumbura county at former Kagunga sub-county headquarters and Rubabo county at Nyarushanje sub-county headquarters.

The district registrar, Agnes Nakalembe, said Rujumbura had registered the highest number of six aspirants for sub-county chairpersons.

Rubabo and Rukungiri municipality had two candidates each.

The exercise is expected to end today in the whole country.

Those nominated in Rujumbura sub-county were Top Kangye, (NRM) for Buhunga sub-county Christopher Turyarugayo (FDC) for Bwambara sub-county, Gastone Byamukama (NRM) for Bugangari sub-county, Henry Ngateireyo (NRM) for Nyakagyeme sub-county and Dinah Rwakacaka (NRM) for Bwambara sub-county.

In Rubabo, Bruno Mujuni was nominated as an independent candidate for Nyarushanje sub-county and Geoffrey Kanumi (NRM) for Buyanja sub-county.

In Rukungiri municipality, Alban Kiconco, (FDC) was nominated to contest for the Southern division, while Precious Mwesigwa, (NRM) was nominated for the Western division.

The district Police commander, Julius Salube, said the nomination was peaceful. The Police deployed heavily in all the centres.
