THE acting Lira resident district commissioner, Godfrey Aluma, has warned opposition leaders against politicising government programmes with the aim of sabotaging them.

He said some leaders from the opposition criticise and discourage people from embracing development projects aimed at eradicating poverty.

Aluma emphasised that programmes like the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS), Prosperity-For-All and the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund were meant to benefit everybody regardless of one’s political affiliation.

“If you are a leader who wants to politicise everything with a view of discouraging people from receiving what the Government has given them, then you are not a leader,” Aluma stated.

He was on Wednesday handing over 5,000 day-old broiler chicks donated by President Yoweri Museveni to the youth of Lira Municipality.

A total of 25 youth groups each got 200 chicks, three bags of starter and broiler finisher feeds to help them kick-start the project that is being implemented through the NAADS secretariat.

Lira NAADS coordinator Godfrey Ojuka Acuti said 11,000 more chicks would be given out to 31 youth groups in the second phase.

Acuti warned the youth against eating the birds, saying the project is supposed to be purely commercial and not for domestic consumption.

He noted that the Government would monitor the progress of the project to ensure that it is not mismanaged.
