KOBS’ prop Brian Odong is relishing the prospect of engaging in the biggest derby test of his career today when they take on Cup holders Heathens in the Uganda Cup rugby finals in Jinja.

The 22-year-old has contested local rivalries before, but admits today’s final between the Kobs and Heathens at the Nile Dam waters rugby ground will be an entirely new experience.

Odong, who was part of last year’s team that lost 39-5 to Heathens at Kyadondo, believes it will all be a different advetnture when he enters the pitch with the arm band.

“I know the pressure is on me to captain the team to a final but with the support of experienced players like Victor Wadia, Adrian Bukenya, Steven Ogwete, Allan Musoke and Simon Wakabi, victory is ours,” Odong stated.

Heathens coach Brian Tabaruka is not taking it lightly though and has all his focus on the double this year after winning the league.
“The team has worked hard and is ready the game. We are challenged for the trophy and can’t take it lightly,” Tabaruka stated.

He added that the neutral venue will be good for both teams but with his full squad available, Heathens will be gunning for victory.

Heathens boast not only a host of experienced players Robert Seguya, Mathias Ochwo, Bishop Onen, Benon Kiiza, Jude Keremundu, Oscar Oluoch and Rugby Cranes 7s team Captain Michael Wokorach but history favours them too.

They have won the title six times compared to Kobs thrice since 1999.
Heathens saw off Pirates 19-9 in the semis while Kobs beat Mongers 37-8 at Kampala Rugby Club.
