BUSINESS came at a stand-still and traffic flow was interrupted for over an hour in Jinja town as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) mayoral candidate was nominated on Friday.

Majid Batambuze, a local businessman, paralysed the town after he was nominated at Busoga square.

He moved in a convoy of over 50 vehicles that snaked through the streets of Jinja as he and his supporters flashed the NRM thumbs-up sign and chanted victory songs.

However, Batambuze suffered a minor setback as he presented a small colour passport-size photograph to the Electoral Commission officials. He was sent back and told to present the right size.

Others nominated for the seat were the incumbent, Muhammad Baswale Kezaala (Democratic Party), former mayor Joel Kafuko (independent) and Andrew Kasigwa (Forum for Democratic Change).
Batambuze promised to transform Jinja into a vibrant and developed city.

“I plan to revamp the tourism sector, ensure cleanliness in the town and work with President Yoweri Museveni to ensure that Jinja gets a share of the national cake,” he said.
