The Bishop of Masaka Diocese, John Baptist Kaggwa, has asked Catholics to take up leadership posts and push for development. “Most Catholics spend time in idle talk, saying other religions have dominated the whole system. That habit of talking instead of taking part is a mere wastage of time and they (other religions) will keep on leading you,” Kaggwa said.

He blamed them for their failure to support fellow Catholics when they contest for political posts. Kaggwa was addressing pilgrims at the Queen of Peace Shrine at Kiwamirembei in Kajjansi in Wakiso district on Sunday.

He prayed for peace and asked believers to engage in the coming elections. “Let us implore Virgin Mary to pray for us before God so that the 2011 elections are conducted peacefully and fairly. And for the people to elect the right leaders who are not after personal gain, but those who care about the glory of God and are patriotic,” Kaggwa said.

He expressed concern that some sections of society were engaged in fighting as a result of their political differences. Kaggwa warned the youth against engaging in immorality. He added that the Catholic church did not accept unmarried couples to cohabit.
